Symbolism

What is the name of the Current Novel you are reading?
I am currently reading the book Cut by Patricia McCormick.

What is the "basic idea" of the story (min 3 paragraphs) - please remember i have not read the story , provide me with a basic understanding of the novel.

The book starts out with the main character, Callie, in Sea Pines, a residential treatment facility. The reason why she is there is because of her school nurse. When the school nurse sees the scars on Callie's arms, she decides that Callie needs help. Callie doesnt seem like the type of person who would cut herself. Though her brother is sick very often, she runs track and appears to be completely normal. That is obviously not true. She is hiding her true feelings.
After, she is sent to Sea Pines. Sea Pines includes of girls with problems like eating disorders, drug addiction, etc. No one knows the reason why she is there besides her therapist and the people who work at the treatment facility. Her treatment consists of group therapy and therapy with her therapist. In the beginning Callie does not talk at all during her time there not even with her therapist. No one can figure out why she is there untill Amanda starts treatment.
There was no one with a problem like Callie's at Sea Pines, untill Amanda came. Amanda says she only cuts herself because she likes it and that she can control it. Soon everyone finds out why Callie is there. With the new girl and the help of her therapist, Callie starts to talk. Little by little she starts talking and explaining her problems to her therapists. Callie says she harms herself to get rid of the other pain she is going through. She even starts to talk in her group therapy with her therapist's help. She makes new friends as well. Now, the only problem is her getting better. She doesnt know if she wants to get better. Talking with her therapist helps her a lot in deciding what she wants. After a couple of weeks she decides she needs to go out for a walk. She doesnt know where she wants to go. She ends up lost and decides to call her father up. He takes her back to Sea Pines. They talk quite a but, which is odd because they werent in good terms before she left. After returning back to Sea Pine she realizes what she wants. Callie wants to get better.

In the current novel your reading are their any gender stereotypes or symbols you have picked up on . Please explain

There are not particularly any gender stereotypes, though there are other kinds of stereotypes in the book. Everyone thought that Callie was perfectly fine only because she had a perfect family and school life. Many think that the people that are gothic and wear black are the only ones that cut themselves. That is not completely true.

What is ALL the characters in your current novel were male.? Please explain how that would affect the novel .

If all the characters in this novel were male, the whole book would change. Since boys and girls both have different feelings and emotions the feeling when you read the book would definitely change. Both genders react differently to most situations. This would also cause the book to change its scenes.

What is ALL the characters in your current novel were female? Please explain how that would affect the novel.

If all the characters in this novel were female, the book would not change much. Mostly all the characters are female, besides Callie's brother and father. The atmosphere of the novel would be the same because the situation of the characters will be the same.

Please provide the definition of SYMBOLISM in your own words.

Symbolism is a representation of something important. Behind a symbol is something more valuable.
